GAMS Students Learn the History of Downing Park
On Fri., Oct.10, 2008, students in the 2nd grade classes at GAMS Tech Magnet School visited Downing Park in the City of Newburgh. Students learned the history of the spacious grounds, became hands on with nature, and saw first hand the beautiful scenery of autumn in the park. Students also enjoyed lunch in the park with their teachers and parent chaperons.
Downing Park was named after Andrew Jackson Downing, a native of Newburgh. Downing who played a significant role in the creation of a number of parks, such as Central Park in New York City. The roughly 35-acre park boasts a pond, streams, and rich vegetation.
