Heritage Junior High School’s Stewart Campus Celebrates Rededication
On Thurs., Oct. 23, 2008, administrators, staff and students at the Heritage Junior High School Stewart Campus held a rededication ceremony for the building.
New York State Senator William Larkin, Jr., and Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun spoke to the students, the first class to attend the “new” school, about how the future of the students will largely depend on how they spend their time in school.
Senator Larkin reminded the students that they are fortunate to be part of such a high-quality school. “Do me a favor…challenge yourself…,” Larkin asked those students in attendance. Assemblywoman Calhoun reminded the first class, “You set the standard.”
Seventh grade student Alexandria Negri read an essay to those in attendance on a student’s perspective of the Stewart Campus. After attending orientations at several schools, the campus “stood out to me,” said Negri. A student performance of the song “Never Stop Learning” by Director Jodi Rodriguez along with her students was a special treat for those in attendance.
“I’m so proud of you. You’ve done great things. You give us great pride,” said Heritage Junior High School Principal Joseph Raiti.
Assemblywoman Calhoun reminded students, when finding a job or focusing on a specific topic in their studies, to remember that, to find the rewards, they have to find something that they truly love not something that pays well only. “Find something that you are really challenged by and you will have the rewards,” said Calhoun.
