The 2008-2009 School Year
Dear Faculty, Staff, Students, and Families,
A new school year presents opportunities for new beginnings, new faces, new classes, and new opportunities. Summer vacation can be great healers. It lets us steal away private time to refresh ourselves and fortify our inner strengths for the challenges that are ahead of us. However, newness alone cannot produce transformation. It requires a decision to make what is ahead much better than what was left behind. We must be willing to be caught up in the rebirth that is possible with each new school year. It gives us the chance to make new plans, design new strategies, and implement new ideas. There is a special kind of satisfaction and appreciation in planning lessons and activities for a new class of students. Whether one’s responsibility is administering, teaching, supervising, managing an office, preparing lunches, maintaining a building, parenting, or providing overall support, there is always room for improvement, and new ways to do a good job even better. This year, as in the past, we must continue to concentrate on the processes that spur achievement: evaluate what we have, determine what we can do to improve, and identify what we need to make those improvements, and strengthen relations between the school and home.
We look forward to seeing you soon. Remember that teacher arrival and dismissal is again 8:40 AM and 3:55 PM, respectively. Student arrival at New Windsor School at 8:55 AM and bus dismissal is 3:30 PM. Walkers and pick-ups will be dismissed at 3:15 PM. Please save the date: Open House is scheduled on Wednesday evening, September 10, 2008. Lastly, the school will implement a major nutrition initiative. Stay tuned for more information.
In closing, I enthusiastically urge you to join the Parent Teacher Organization and/or the Compact Committee. Be active in the life of the school. The PTO and Compact will outreach to you to encourage your membership. Remember: the school belongs to you and we work to serve you. On behalf of the faculty and staff thank you for continuing to send us your wonderful children. We look forward to working with you and thanks for your continued support.
Welcome back and see you soon.
Enthusiastically yours,
Dr. Roberto Calderín
Mrs. Terry Lucas
