The main goal of Leadership is to be a positive role model for others. Students receive instruction in communication and listening skills, problem solving, critical thinking, and initiatives. The importance of team building, tolerance and being positive role models for others is stressed. Each student trained in Peer Leadership then chooses a particular group in which they wish to be involved during their tenure at North Junior high School. Besides school involvement, Peer Leaders are required to do 15 hours of community service (done in or out of school) during the school year. Peer Leadership group options include:
Art - building beautification projects
Gourmets on the Go - using cooking to understand multiculturalism
Mediation - resolving conflicts between and among students
Sherpa - an outdoor adventure group and guide group
Tutoring - academic assistance to fellow students
Sight and Sound - audio visual technical assistance during assembly programs
