Temple Hill Academy Students Shine During Opening Day Olympic Ceremony
Students at Temple Hill Academy in New Windsor began their school Olympics in style last week on Thurs., Oct. 2, 2008. Classes exited the building one by one proudly waving flags representing various countries. The expressions on the students’ faces clearly showed the excitement that was building before the big event. The annual event promotes a healthy lifestyle through physical fitness as well as fostering friendly competition between the students.
Student torch runners as well as Temple Hill Academy Physical Education teachers jogged two laps around the parking lot before PE teacher Chris Leggett lit the Temple Hill Olympic torch on the steps in front of the school. During the ceremony, students were surprised with a special visit from Stripes the Tiger, the Temple Hill Academy mascot. In addition, Board of Education members from the Newburgh Enlarged City School District were on hand for the event as well as New York State Senator William Larkin Jr.
