Newburgh Free Academy Athletic Teams Recognized for Academic and Athletic Excellence
The Newburgh Enlarged City School District is proud to announce that six Newburgh Free Academy athletic teams have been recognized for achieving academic excellence while participating in varsity level interscholastic athletics during the fall 2011 season. Teams recognized include the Girls Tennis Team, Girls Volleyball Team, Boys Cross Country Team, Football Team, Girls Swimming and Diving Team, and Girls Soccer Team.
According to NECSD Athletic Director Jack Mager, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association sets a minimum number of athletes for each athletic team who must attain a 90% or better team average in order to be recognized.
"I am very proud of all of our fall athletes and their teams as they showed that you truly can be successful both on the field and in the classroom. I am hopeful that our high level of academic achievement this past fall will become the norm for all of our student-athletes throughout the academic year,” explained Mager of the achievements.
