Turtles....Falcons…and Tigers- Oh My!!!

GAMS 15th Annual Science Expo Brings Animals Big and Small to Newburgh Students

Recently, students and their families from GAMS Tech Magnet school in Newburgh along with school faculty members came together for the 15th Annual GAMS Tech Family Science Expo. The theme this year, “Animal World”, incorporated animals both big and small giving students a first hand look into the wild world of animals.

In the gymnasium, “Wildman Jack”, gave students an up close and personal look at large snakes, an alligator, turtles and lizards during various shows throughout the day. Wild World of Animals, a frequent guest on the Jay Leno Show, gave special performances for students and their families with a tiger cub, kangaroo and monkey in addition to larger animals. During the event, the Delaware Raptor Center also provided a first hand view of some of the Hudson Valley’s most notorious feathered friends from eagles, owls and hawks to the falcon.

In addition, the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum located in Cornwall brought a special herd of small creatures indigenous to the area for the children to see. Representatives from local shelters and animal hospitals were also on hand to answer questions for students and their families. Animal arts and crafts were available for younger students in various classrooms and an international food court allowed students and their family members to try foods from various cultures and continents around the world.
