Horizons-on-the-Hudson Students Collect Halloween Candy for Troops Overseas
Students in the National Honor Society at Horizons-on-the-Hudson Magnet School in Newburgh recently operated a school-wide Halloween candy collection drive to be sent to troops overseas. Horizons-on-the-Hudson Assistant Principal Julio Vazquez explained that the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students in the National Honor Society are required to do a certain number of community service projects throughout the year as part of their curriculum. After the students discussed several options, the candy collection drive initiative was chosen for the current project. Vazquez said he feels that the program taught students a valuable lesson about not only expanding their horizons through learning in the classroom, but also about being charitable to others outside of their own school.
