New Windsor School Hosts
10th Annual Dave Harris Memorial Basketball Game
Gymnasium Dedicated in Late Teacher’s Honor
New Windsor Elementary School recently held the 10th Annual Dave Harris Memorial Basketball Game on Tues., June 15, 2010. Teachers along with fifth and sixth grade students played in the basketball game in honor of the late Dave Harris a well-liked teacher who passed away unexpectedly. Each year the program that Harris developed was continued on in his name and memory.
This year, a special celebration was held to mark the 10th anniversary of the event. Former students, in addition to current New Windsor Elementary School teachers, unveiled a special commemorative sign announcing that the gymnasium will be named the Dave Harris Gymnasium. The special tribute ensures that the former teacher’s legacy will live on in the school for decades to come. Family and friends of Harris were in attendance and thanked the school for keeping the memory of their loved one alive over the past ten years.
Fellow coworkers fondly remembered Harris as not only a great friend to adults, but more importantly a friend to the students. His goal was to teach students about the importance of physical education for their health and also to learn valuable life lessons such as teamwork both in and out of the classroom.
