NFA Fashion Show Showcases The Future Of Fashion
On Thurs. April 23, 2009, the Newburgh Free Academy students of Fashion II and III presented The Future of Fashion for friends, family, and community members. This year there were 22 students designers in addition to numerous models that played a role in the enormous event.
Each year, the elaborate production requires various classes and departments to come together for a night of fun and fashion. This year, students from the Construction Career Academy designed and built the roughly 25 foot long stage for the event. Cosmetology students worked with models and designers on hair and make-up for the performance. In addition, students from a digital photography class were behind the lens capturing their classmates as they walked the runway and prepared to “strike a pose” in the crowded NFA Auditorium.
"I have seen these kids struggle and do nothing but try their hardest, therefore it does not surprise me that the night was such a success. That is what happens when you have passion, talent, and perseverance. I am so proud of all of them,” said Fashion Teacher Karen Stafford.
At this year’s event, proceeds from each ticket sold went to The Carly Fund. The Carly Fund was created in memory of the late Carly Sigelbaum who was a student in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. According to Stafford, a $500 donation will be given to the charity. The donation will be presented on Sat., May 16 at the Carly’s Kids Day event at Chadwick Lake in Newburgh.
Student designers this year included: Brogan Kavanagh, Cynthia Valdez, Catherine Kotlowski, Caitlyn Giampaolo, Francia Villavincencio, Re’Karri Walker, Ellisha Dubuisson, The’as Fortune, Jasmine Atkins, Edie Dejean, Molly Hoarty, Stephanie Mineo, Shavaughn Stewart, Jennifer Nunez, Destiny Rivera, Angelica Diaz, Josette Ramnani, April Rosscup, Tyler McCoy, Jessica Marin, Mystique Washington, and Chanet Sawyer.
