General PTO Information

Mission Statement
The objective of the Vails Gate High Tech Magnet School PTO is to provide a vehicle whereby parents and teachers can work effectively and cooperatively to bring about a closer relationship between the home and school, thus enhancing the educational process of the children enrolled in The Vails Gate High Tech Magnet School. We provide a common ground between home, students, administration, parents and teachers. We raise funds through a variety of vehicles to further enrich our children's learning experience. The PTO abides by the Vails Gate High Tech Magnet School By-Laws available upon request by all paid PTO General and Executive members.
Membership
Parents who join the Vails Gate High Tech magnet School PTO become advocates for their own and other children ensuring that students are treated fairly and have access to learning opportunities that will support their success. The PTO manages the responsibilities of behalf of all the Parents. Parents may become members of the General PTO upon payment of the PTO dues. The Vails Gate High Tech Magnet School PTO General membership fee is $5.00 per family. Two hours of volunteer time and attendance to two of our monthly meetings per school year ( Sept.-June) is encouraged but not required.
PTO VS PTA
Both PTO's and PTA's are established to benefit the children within the school system. However, the primary difference between a PTO and a PTA is that a PTA is part of a larger state and national organization. As such, they are required to pay dues and abide by state and national group rules and in return they receive benefits from this organization. The dues collected by the state and national PTA organization are used at a much broader level and are not used specifically for our local school.
We have elected to become a PTO and thus have our own set of By-Laws. We are independent from this state and national organization so that all dollars collected from our fundraising efforts go directly into programs utilized by the Vails Gate High Tech Magnet School.
Expenses
All revenue received is used to fund programs that benefit the students, parents, teachers or school. Enrichment programs for our children rely on our funding to continue. Any additional funds collected are spent on one time expenditures, as approved by the PTO in conjunction with the teachers and principal(s). Financial records are available to all paid members upon request.
Revenues
Fundraisers are our primary means of revenue and support all of our ongoing activities.
Family Events
In addition, the Vails Gate High Tech Magnet School PTO sponsors a variety of family events to help promote a closer relationship between the home and school.
We would like to thank Mrs. Escalera and all of our parent volunteers. Without you we couldn't fund the programs that enhance our children's learning experience. This organization thrives with the help of those who make time for the PTO. Please offer to volunteer today. And of course, we would like to thank our Vails Gate High Tech Magnet school principal, Mrs. Lamarche and Assistant Principal Mr. Woody and a special thanks to our teachers for making a difference in our children's lives. Your dedication and hard work is greatly appreciated.
