Vails Gate High Tech Magnet School Theme-Based Program Math, Science, and Technology

Students at all grade levels attend regularly-scheduled labs in math, science, and technology. The lab experiences are integrated into classroom projects. In this way, a variety of academic skills, such as speaking and listening, writing and reading, observing and recording data, drawing conclusions and predicting, problem solving and decision making, are practiced and supported.

The Math Lab

The Math Lab operates with students in cooperative small groups who rotate through stations using many learning techniques, tools, and devices to solve problems that meet national math standards.

The Science Lab

The Science Lab works in a way similar to the Math Lab with teams of students completing units of study designed to meet the NYS standards. Again, many techniques, strategies, and devices are used to complete each unit of study.

The Computer Lab

In the Computer Lab students log onto the school's servers to use software designed for specific subject areas. They practice reading, writing, and research skills, and explore topics in math, science, and social studies. Often a student's final report for a project is created on the computer and shared with the class or school.

The Television Production Lab

The Television Production Lab with studio cameras and sound equipment combined with professional editing and recording devices allow our students opportunities to produce video projects for the class, the school, and at times the district. A critical teaching and learning element in TV production is careful attention to the process of producing a video, a valuable lesson for our students to learn.
