Human Development (Adolescent Years)        CRS NUMBER 750    CREDIT 0.5

The purpose of this course is to help the student understand how the adolescent relates with others throughout the life cycle, and to consider fields of study and career opportunities in human development. This course is designed to give students an opportunity to explore the contemporary issues facing them and to investigate the many choices and challenges open to them as they deal with these issues. Students will explore effective methods of relating to younger children and will observe practical applications. This course is required for the following sequences: Food Explorations, Human Services and Family Studies and Home and Personal Management.
Prerequisites: None

Course Requirements: Completion of required reading/writing assignments and active participation in class discussion and activities.



Child Development       CRS NUMBER 751    CREDIT 1.0

The major aim of this course is to focus thought on children. Through better understanding of children, the students will better understand themselves and will be better prepared for parenthood and/or careers relating to children. The student will study prenatal care and development. The physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth of the child at various stages through age six will be studied.
Prerequisites: None

Course Requirements: Make a child’s toy and completion of assignments.



Early Childhood Ed. Programs-Part 1       CRS NUMBER 755    CREDIT 0.5

This course is designed for students who have a sincere interest in working with children and have set an early childhood career as part of their future goals. This course introduces the student to responsibilities for planning, preparing and caring for children in a group situation. The students will participate in the management of the Teens and Tots nursery project; a group of 3-4 year old children who attend and participate in an early childhood setting on a regular basis at NFA. Introduction to early childhood programs, observations of children and communicating with children are among the topics included in this course. This course can be taken concurrently with Early Childhood Education Program Part 2.
Prerequisites: Human Development Core, Food and Nutrition Core, Child Development Part 1 and 2 or Instructor's approval.

Course Requirements: Completion of assignments and participation in the "Teens and Tots” program.



Early Childhood Ed. Programs - Part 2       CRS NUMBER 756    CREDIT 2.0

This course continues to prepare the student for an early childhood career. This course provides an in-depth study of early childhood education including managerial and developmental theory and application. It includes extensive work with children. Students develop the program and participate in the Teens and Tots nursery project, a child care laboratory at NFA.
Prerequisites: Human Development Core, Food and Nutrition Core, Child Development Part 1 & 2, Early Childhood Education Programs Part 1 or Instructor's approval.

Course Requirements: Completion of assignments and participation in "Teens and Tots"
