NECSD Students Participate In Spanish Spelling Bee
Top Two Winners Slated to Compete in NYC
On Wednesday, April 7, 2010 the Newburgh Enlarged City School District’s Department of Bilingual Education held its Certamen de Deletreo en Español (Spanish Spelling Bee) for students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. Forty seven students from Gardnertown Fundamental Magnet School, GAMS Tech Magnet School, Meadow Hill Global Explorations School, Temple Hill Academy Elementary School, Vails Gate High Tech Magnet School and West Street School participated in this event.
NECSD’s Assistant Superintendent for Student Intervention and Support Services Dr. David Noriega served as the word master. Resource Specialist from the Mid-Hudson Bilingual Education Technical Assistance Center (BETAC) Rosibel González, Temple Hill Academy Principal Roberto Cruz and NECSD Executive Director of Operations and Maintenance Aníbal Vélez served as the judges.
The Newburgh Teachers Association provided gift cards from Barnes and Noble for first and second place winners in each grade. Overall winners, Adiel Sánchez and Saby Banegas will represent the district at a state-wide Certamen de Deletreo en Español in New York City on Fri., May 28, 2010.
