NECSD Security Personnel Attend Workshop to Discuss Safety in the Schools
Newburgh Enlarged City School District security personnel met in the North Junior High School auditorium recently to discuss the best approach for being more effective in the schools as part of a Superintendent’s Conference Day workshop. The group, consisting of roughly 80 participants, began the afternoon workshop by listening to Town of Newburgh Police Officer Sally Black, also the NECSD’s DARE officer, who spoke objectively about issues that arise in the schools and the best ways to deal with both students and parents in a professional manner. A large group discussion following Black’s lesson allowed the personnel to collectively bring issues to the table and find ways to work with students, building staff, and parents to improve relations between all parties within the schools.
NECSD’s Director or Security John Young, who worked along with Officer Black to oversee the workshop, felt the afternoon was successful. “Officer Black did a fantastic job, and the training was well received. She also covered some security basics such as situational awareness and identifying problems to prevent their escalation which are essential when dealing with a district as large as the NECSD,” explained Young.
