Dear NECSD Community
As we begin a new school year, there is so much to look forward to – and so much we can accomplish together. Each new year brings new opportunities to learn, grow, connect, and make a difference for our students and one another. Our Goldback community is at its strongest when students, faculty, staff, families, and community partners work together and celebrate each other’s successes. How we show up for one another matters, and together, we represent the very best of who we are.
Let’s make this a year of collaboration, connection, and possibility. Let’s listen to one another, support one another, and remember that every contribution, regardless of how big or small, helps move our schools forward. When we work as one community, we create an environment where every Goldback feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
Here’s to a great year ahead! Every Goldback. Every Day. Together!
Our CTE Center is Open!
Our brand-new, state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education high school building is open!
- Did you know that our NFA CTE students are OSHA-certified?
- Did you know that we offer 17 programs so our graduates can compete in the workforce?
- Did you know our students can earn a certificate to begin their career, head to college, or start an apprenticeship right from NFA?
Listen to a conversation with Superintendent Dr. Manning Campbell and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Elisa Soto about the building!
Listen to us on the radio! The NFA CTE building is hosting a radio show Friday, October 2nd from 6am - 9pm. Details coming, so you can tune in!
Back-to-school visits
Our classrooms are officially open, welcoming scholars back into safe, structured, and inspiring environments designed for growth. Guided by our dedicated educators and staff, students are arriving each day energized, curious, and fully prepared to dive into their learning journeys. Together as a community, we are ready to foster academic excellence, connection, and success for every child throughout the school year. My team and I recently toured each school building and welcomed our students, faculty, and staff back for a bright new year!

Student Board Members sworn in
Student leaders took their oath of office as ex-officio members of our Board of Education during the regular meeting held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Students were selected as part of their roles in our high school's student council executive board, elected by their peers.
Congratulations to these student leaders! Student voice remains a priority for Superintendent Dr. Manning Campbell and our Board of Education.
Kadian Wilson - Executive Council President
Aarna Patel - Executive Council Vice President
Carmen Burgarelli - Executive Council Secretary
Senior Sunrise
Our high school seniors participated in the annual Senior Sunrise event, hosted by our high school Student Council. This traditional rite of passage event marks the beginning of their final chapter together as they gather at dawn to celebrate the bright future ahead. As the sun rose over the horizon, scholars shared smiles, captured memories, and reflected on their journey before embarking on their final year of high school.
NFA CTE CPR
Hundreds of NFA CTE scholars gained life-saving skills this week! Thanks to our impactful partnership with New Windsor Emergency Medical Services, our high school students completed hands-on training in:
Stop the Bleed
CPR
AED Operation
We are so grateful for this collaboration and for equipping our scholars with these essential tools. If these skills help save even one life, it is well worth every effort!
UPCOMING EVENT: Pink Night - October 2nd, 2026
For the last several years, NECSD has recognized Pink Day to honor those who have lost their battle with cancer. The first “Pink” Day was established by faculty and staff at Heritage Middle School in support of a colleague who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer over 10 years ago. During her fight, the staff and faculty would all wear pink.
Although we call the day Pink Day, we welcome our community to wear any color that recognizes members of our Goldback family who have lost their battle with any form of cancer. We dedicate this day to the fighters, survivors, & those who lost their battles to Breast, Prostate, Skin, Lung, Kidney, Blood, Bladder, Pancreatic, Childhood, Colon, Ovarian, and ALL other Cancers.
All schools, PTOs, teams, organizations, and clubs are invited to come together as one district at the football game held on October 2nd for this recognition and remembrance.
Please contact Ms. Jonelle Santo (jsanto@necsd.net) if your group would like to formally participate.
UPCOMING EVENT: Trunk or Treat
Our annual Trunk or Treat event is back and will be better than ever! This year, we are partnering with the City of Newburgh! Spanning a full block up Broadway, the event will welcome our students and families, 100 decorated trunks with goodies, a Halloween-themed movie, and a witches caldron. We need you!
Schools, PTOs, Athletics teams, Performance Groups, Clubs, community organizations, families, and more! We are looking for volunteers to decorate their trunks and help make this event a memorable one for our community!

Power of Hello!
During the week of September 8th–11th, the GAMS school community came together to participate in the "POWER of HELLO" initiative to foster a culture of acceptance, care, and belonging. Faculty and staff kicked off the week by wearing matching "Power of Hello" t-shirts on Tuesday to lead by example and set a welcoming tone across our buildings. Throughout the week, educators facilitated meaningful Social Emotional Learning (SEL) discussions that empowered students to build positive connections and strengthen our school climate.

Our Mascot is Here!
A new school district mascot serves as a powerful symbol of unity, pride, and shared identity, bridging students from kindergarten through high school under one collective banner. Working in close collaboration with professional costume designers, every detail of the mascot’s suit was custom-engineered for maximum durability, mobility, and expressive charm—ensuring it can seamlessly transition from high-energy high school athletic events to warm, engaging visits with our youngest elementary scholars.
Ultimately, this tailored mascot is more than just a costumed ambassador; it is an enduring representation of our District’s spirit, welcoming every scholar into a tradition of belonging from their very first day of school to graduation. We have already received requests for the mascot to appear at events.
In order to streamline this process, please utilize this link to request the Goldback mascot at future events.
Please note that the mascot is part of our NFA Varsity Cheerleading team; therefore, priority will be given to student-athletes.

FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
|
|
Thanks to our Community Partners
Several organizations have donated time and school supplies to support our scholars in reaching their full academic potential. We remain thankful to our community partners for their continued collaboration. When our schools, families, and community work together, we create a strong foundation that empowers our scholars to achieve academic success and reach their fullest potential.
Jumpstart Jamboree
Our annual Jumpstart Jamboree event took place at Gidney Avenue Memorial School (GAMS), where Pre-K and Kindergarten students and their families joined us for engaging activities and helpful resources to prepare for the school year. Scholars had the opportunity to interact with our Buster the School Bus, meet new friends, and build excitement for the upcoming year. A wide array of community resources were also available on-site, highlighting our shared commitment to working together as a community to ensure every student succeeds. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event a wonderful success!
