UPDATE NYS ELA Testing Resumes Tomorrow (April 9th)

UPDATED April 9, 2025 at 3;54pm

Hello NECSD families, faculty, and staff,

I want to thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we navigate technical challenges related to this year’s computer-based testing. For the second day in a row, schools across the state — including ours — have experienced significant slowdowns and disruptions that have impacted testing.

These issues stem from an external vendor contracted by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), whose systems have struggled to manage the volume of test takers statewide. While today’s impact is less severe than yesterday’s, the vendor is still actively working to resolve the root cause of the issue.

To ensure that all students have a smooth and equitable testing experience, we have made the decision to reschedule our assessments to after Spring Recess. NYSED has assured districts that steps are being taken to prevent further issues for the remainder of the testing window.

We recognize how important a calm and consistent testing environment is for students, and we remain committed to providing just that.

Thank you again for your support and understanding.

Sincerely,

Mr. Joseph McGrath, Asst. Superintendent, CIO, DPO

Hello NECSD families, faculty, and staff,

The New York State ELA Assessment for students in grades 3-8 was scheduled to begin this morning, but had to be postponed due to an issue with New York State. Testing will resume tomorrow. Students who were originally scheduled to test on Tuesday and Wednesday will now be testing on Wednesday and Thursday.

To help scholars do their best, we encourage our families to create an environment with minimal stress at home, encourage a good night's rest, and make sure our scholars arrive at school on time.

Sincerely,

Mr. Joseph McGrath, Asst. Superintendent, CIO, DPO

Hello NECSD families, faculty, and staff,

The New York State ELA Assessment for students in grades 3-8 was scheduled to begin this morning. Unfortunately, New York State is experiencing sporadic disruptions with its online testing platform. Therefore, all impacted districts will pause testing until further notice. Students who started the test will have their systems reset. In the interim, all Chromebook devices will be collected from students to protect the integrity of the test.

At this time, there is no further information from the state on when they will have the issues resolved and when we will be able to resume testing. We will notify parents/guardians before testing resumes.

Sincerely,

Mr. Joseph McGrath, Asst. Superintendent, CIO, DPO

Atentamente,

Sr. Joseph McGrath, Asistente Superintendente, CIO, DPO

Atentamente,

Sr. Joseph McGrath, Superintendente Adjunto, CIO, DPO
