This message includes instructions for selecting your child's preference for middle school next school year. If no selection is made, your child will be placed where there is space available. 

Hello current 5th grade Goldbacks!

Middle School is right around the corner! Selection Tours have been scheduled! 

This is a valuable opportunity for current 5th grade students and families to explore our middle schools, learn more about our programs, and start building connections in our school community.

Selection tours provide students and their families the chance to visit and explore schools, learn about the programs offered, and meet with school staff. We encourage all 5th grade families to attend and get a feel for what our middle schools have to offer!

Middle School Selection Tours

Tours are listed below in the order of date that they are offered. 

[Please note, students who are currently enrolled in K-8 buildings (Meadow Hill School and Temple Hill School) will remain in their current school building for the middle school grade levels. No action regarding selection is needed at this time for those students.]

School Selection Instructions

School selection will take place utilizing a Parent Portal Survey. If you do not have a Parent Portal account set up, you will need to create one. The Infinite Campus Parent Portal Application can be accessed here: Parent/Student Portal Infinite Campus or downloaded free from the app store. Tutorial videos are available at Parent/Student Portal Infinite Campus | En español, select the tab that best fits your needs. 

Selection Information | Parent Portal Survey:

School preference selection takes place utilizing a Parent Portal Survey. The Survey will be available December 1, 2026 through January 4, 2027. You will need to have an active Parent Portal to complete the survey. 

Important things to note: 

• You must select a preferred school, South Middle School or Heritage Middle School. This preference does NOT guarantee assignment to the preferred school. Once the survey closes, March 6, 2026, students are entered into a school selection process. 
• Any required specialized programming for your child, may impact the school assignment (i.e. IEP, etc.)

• Results will be communicated in the beginning of April 2026. 
• Families who do not receive their preferred school will automatically be added to a waitlist and will be notified if enrollment space becomes available. A transfer request is not necessary for students on the waitlist.

CURRENT NECSD student with Activated Parent Portal Account: If you need assistance logging into your Parent Portal please contact the Registration Department at 845.563.KIDS. or by email at registration@necsd.net. You may also contact the helpdesk at newburghportal@necsd.net

• Log in to your Parent Portal
• Go to Message Center
• Select Survey Option
• Fill out all areas of the survey

CURRENT NECSD student without Activated Parent Portal Account:

• Activate your Parent Portal account using your personalized key. Personalized activation keys can be obtained by contacting the Registration Department at 845.563.KIDS. or by email at registration@necsd.net. You may also contact the helpdesk at newburghportal@necsd.net
• It is important that you only use the activation key provided to you and should not be shared with anyone. Tutorial videos are available, visit NewburghSchools.org/Registration. 
• Once you activate your Parent Portal Account, follow the steps below to complete your Selections:
• Log in to your Parent Portal
• Go to Message Center
• Select Survey Option
• Fill out all areas of the survey

Register your child by visiting NewburghSchools.org/Registration and follow the directions that best fit your needs.
