Middle School Scholars Use Art to Depict Geographical Cognates
Students in Ms. Amaro’s class studied cognates when covering Geography. Cognates are words that are similar in English and Spanish.
According to one student, “I use cognates and I think that they help because when looking at words I may not know - I am able to recognize them because they look like Spanish words so I can read it and understand it better in English because I use what I know about the word in Spanish.”
Students in Ms. McCarthy’s class painted these Geography terms. This allows students multiple ways of learning a topic and can be beneficial to comprehension for our many dual language learners.
