Tuesday, March 17th is a half day for students!
Thursday, March 19th is a 1/2 half day for students due to a Superintendent's Conference Day!
Spring Recess will be April 6th - 10th! Students return to school on Monday, April 13th.
NYS Assessment Exams!!
NYS ELA Assessment will be held on March 25th - 27th!
NYS Math Assessment will be held on April 21st - 23rd!
NYS Science Assessment will be held the week of May 26th and June 1st!
NYSESLAT will be held on April 6th - May 15th! (speaking, writing, listening and reading components)
Students need to have 93% attendance to participate in any sports, field trips and school functions (ex. dances)!
As per District policy, all absences, tardiness, early departures and sick notes must be in writing. Only written notes will be accepted to excuse an absence!! No phone calls, texts, e-mails, etc. will be accepted!!
Cell phones need to be turned off and kept out of sight during the school day. Headphones and earbuds must be kept out of sight. If your child is caught with any of these items, the first offense would be that the device is confiscated until the parent/guardian comes to pick it up, the second offense would be that the device is confiscated until the end of the quarter and third offense would be that the device is confiscated until the end of the year.
Water Containers and Lunches!!
Students will not be able to bring in open containers on liquids such as water bottles, juice, etc. Students may bring beverages to school but the containers must be sealed and new. Students may bring in a recyclable container to fill at our water stations but it must be empty upon entering the school. Any open, filled containers will be taken from students by security during the AM security check. Students may bring a bag lunch from home or have the school lunch. Please do not drop off fast food items to the building for a students' lunch.
Any students that are wearing a face mask to school must have a medical reason to wear one!
International Night has been postponed at this time.
Summer Youth Employment Applications!!
Applications are available in the Guidance Office! You must be 14 yrs of age by July 3, 2020.
AVID @ HMS Program
Any 6th grade student that has received an application for the AVID@HMS Program must submit the written portion to Ms. Latorre in the Guidance Office by Friday, March 20th. You also need to complete the online portion of the application that was e-mailed to you by Mr. Santiago. Please see Ms. Latorre or Mr. Santiago if you need another copy of the written application.
Boys & Girls Modified Lacrosse!!
Tryouts start on March 16th at 3:30 pm at NFA North Campus . Sign up on Family ID as soon as possible!
Any 7th or 8th grader interested in trying out for modified softball must fill out the information on Family ID. The tryouts will start on Monday, March 16th at 3:30 pm at South Middle School.
An informational meeting will be held on Friday, March 13 at 3:30 pm. The meeting will be held at Meadow Hill School in the Cafeteria.
Ms.Thorpe is collecting empty bottles with a $.05 deposit for the HMS Fundraiser. Please drop off your empty bottles to Room 215!
Smencils will be available for sale during lunch on Tuesdays starting the week of January 20th!
Morning at the Movies!
The movie morning for "Mulan" that was to be held on Saturday, March 28th at 10:30am has been cancelled.
Students can buy yearbooks at a discounted price of $20 until December 20th. After that day, the yearbooks will be sold at $22 until March 27th. So, please purchase a yearbook as soon as you can!!!
The National Junior Honor Society members are staying after school on Thursdays to help students with their homework. They will help with all you with all subjects and grade levels. Please sign up in room 207 with Mrs. Lapierre.
Please help Mrs. Mejias put together a yearbook that highlights our school experience!! If you are interested in becoming a part of the team, please stop by Mrs. Mejias' room (Room 105).
See Mr. Evans if you are interested in playing a guitar. The club is held after-school on Thursdays. New members are always welcome!
Girls to Ladies Meeting!
Girls to Ladies will be holding meetings on every Thursday after school for 8th grade girls! You can see Mrs. Martini for more information.
Any students that are interested in playing a sport, make sure you signed up with Family ID by going onto Newburgh Schools website under Athletics! Time and locations of tryouts are also on the site.
Please donate clothes or canned goods to Mr. Porpora in room 315.
