Newburgh Free Academy Celebrates Pep Rally and Homecoming!
All three campuses of Newburgh Free Academy came together and celebrated their Pep Rally this October. Scholars from each grade competed in fun games and showed their spirit and pride in being a Newburgh Goldback!
The ROTC Color Guard presented the colors as the Madrigals same the National Anthem and the Alma Mater. The NFA Band and Advanced Dance Company performed a medley of songs, including an original by the NFA Golden Eagle Marching Band.
Performances continued by the NFA Varsity Cheerleaders, the Hip Hop/Step Team, and over 200 members of the NFA Dance Department.
Fall sports teams were announced and celebrated. Teams included: Boys & Girls Cross Country, Boys & Girls Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Tennis, Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving, Girls Varsity Volleyball, and Boys Varsity Football.
Games included a “Dress Up Relay,” a Scooter Relay, and a game of real-life Hungry-Hungry Hippo.
Participants then headed outside for a class game of Tug-of-War. Teams were based on class level. The ultimate winners were the junior class of 2020.
Games and levels of spirit were judged and awarded points. The class level with the most points at the end of the festivities were awarded the coveted Little Brown Jug. The Little Brown Jug has been awarded for decades and is part of the rich tradition of being a Newburgh Goldback. Aside from being awarded the Little Brown Jug the winning class also earns bragging rights until the next Pep Rally celebration! This year, the senior class of 2019 was awarded the Little Brown Jug.
The festivities were organized by members of the NFA Student Council, Ms. Melanie Larkin their advisor, and Mr. Bob Shust, assistant principal at Newburgh Free Academy’s Main Campus.
