NFA Main Scholars Receive Their One to One Chromebooks
Scholars at Newburgh Free Academy’s Main Campus are introduced to their Chromebooks in English class. This fall, all scholars in grades 3-10 received one to one devices to help enhance their learning experience. Ms. Melanie Larkin, Instructional Technology Facilitator (ITF) worked with scholars in Mr. Mark Whelan’s 9th grade English Honors class to acclimate students and their teacher to the new technology.
Mr. Whelan set up an online classroom for the group and scholars began to interact through the technology. Mr. Whelan posed a question on the board that scholars could also view on their devices. Students gave thought to and answered the question. Once submitted, their answer was projected onto the screen, so their peers could offer comments and feedback as part of the second question that was prompted by their teacher. The technology enabled all students in the class to actively participate in the lesson.
Teachers are able to post individual comments to responses. Students can reply to each other or edit their answer, depending on how the question is set up.
Guidelines for use of the one to one Chromebooks can be found on our website under the Technology Department.
