Middle School Teachers Create Science Explorations Program for 21st Century Students at Horizons
Mrs. Winfield-Corbett, teacher at Meadow Hill School, and Ms. Carey, teacher at South Middle School recently teamed up to create a hands-on science program for students in the 21st Century After-School Program at Horizons. Their course, entitled Science Explorations, actively engages students in scientific inquiry based projects and experiments. The program embeds the Next Generation Science Standards and enables students to explore concepts and make connections across the four domains of science including Physical Science, Life Science, Earth Science and Engineering Design. The learning experiences students engaged in enabled them to develop an in-depth understanding of content and develop key skills such as communication, collaboration, inquiry, problem solving, and flexibility. The students were able to engage in classroom learning experiences that stimulated their interest in science while also preparing them for post elementary endeavors. Take a moment to see the students at work in the attached photos and video.
