NFA Madrigals Perform at Black History Month Celebration
The Newburgh Free Academy Madrigals recently performed at the NYS Department of Transportation Region 8 Black History Month Celebration. Mayor Torrance Harvey was the keynote speaker. Black History Month began in 1928 and since 1976, every American president has proclaimed February as Black History Month. Region 8 celebrated on Tuesday, February 26, with a ceremony highlighted by a key note speech by City of Newburgh Mayor and NFA teacher, Torrance Harvey. Accompanying Mayor Harvey were the Newburgh Free Academy Madrigals and retired NYSDOT Employee Bascom Durham. Nettie Womack was the organizer.
The program included African-American trivia and a delicious lunch feast. The Madrigals perform under the director of Ms. Jillian Caci, teacher at Newburgh Free Academy Main Campus.
