21st Century After-School Academy Employees of the Year for 2018-2019
Staff members nominated their colleagues for this recognition based on their hard work and dedication to our After-School Academy scholars.
Congratulations to this year’s Employees of the Year.
Balmville: Toie Calhoun
She is the heart and soul of the 21st Century Program. Awesome worker and team player! Always exemplary work in all her tasks! Toie goes above and beyond in her duties. She is professional knows the scholars and parents and is always available to listen and helps with whatever issues arise. Ms. Calhoun maintains excellent records, assists teachers with rosters and class assignments, prepares all field trip paperwork with precision, and does it all with a smile. Recently, a student requested a transfer from one enrichment activity to another and she quickly and efficiently facilitated that change. The student reported to me the next day how happy he was in his new activity. This is just one example of how Ms. Calhoun enables all students to have an enjoyable 21st century experience. Toie is always available for students and staff with any concerns we may have had.
GAMS: Alyssa Anderson
Although Ms. Alyssa Anderson shares her position as a teacher with a fellow teacher, she always takes the initiative to begin the student snack lines for all of the grade K-2 students daily upon their arrival to the cafeteria. Additionally, Ms. Anderson ensures that she provides her tutoring assistance to grade 4-5 students and faithfully transitions into our SEL component of the day to provide opportunities for students to participate in our Leader in Me program. For her efforts all around, Ms. Anderson is our 21st Century Program Employee of the Year!!!
Gardnertown: Lisa Maier
Lisa has been part of NECSD family for decades, and she has always kept her professionalism and loving care for all the students! She is such a great role model for our scholars, and she always goes above and beyond her job description. I love working with Lisa for being such a team player and also for her positive attitude.
HOH: Marsetta Shirley
Ms. Shirley hands out food to all of the students on a daily basis. She ensures that no student goes hungry. She cares deeply about each child and how their day went. She works with the artists and teachers and is an absolute pleasure! |
Ms. Shirley consistently goes above and beyond to help students and teachers (stays with students waiting for parent to pick them up, helps students to solve problems they may be having, arrives early and has everything set up, good attendance) She makes sure everyone gets on their buses with a smile on their faces! |
Ms. Shirley is all about the kids in 21st Century. She interacts with them all. She is supportive yet she lets them know that they need to be respectful and follow the rules. She loves to have fun and her enthusiasm is something that is emulated by the students, so they have fun as well. She is a tremendous asset to the 21st Century program and our school in general. Ms. Shirley is a "staple" of our school family. She knows all of the staff and students by name and has positive rapport with parents! |
Ms. Shirley is always the go to person for anything at our program! She takes care of every child with dedication and compassion. She keeps everyone on task!! She is tenacious in her pursuit of the best outcomes for the students, and her colleagues. It is a pleasure and an honor to work with her! |
Ms. Shirley is always going over and above her job. If a teacher is out she helps to solve this problem. Ms. Shirley is always the first one to always make sure the students are always put first. She stays late to make sure the last student is picked up by their parent. She embodies what it means to be a team player and is one of the hardest working people that I know. She knows how to put a smile on everyone's face and her personality makes you automatically want to be around her. She definitely deserves this award! |
Vails Gate: Michele Walsh
Ms. Walsh is in the cafeteria right after bus dismissal to hand out the snacks and to monitor the students until the teachers arrive. She makes sure that all of the students have a snack if they want one.
Michelle is always willing to help out anywhere and anytime she is needed! She helps to make sure all the students are fed, ready to learn and accounted for. She is flexible and willing to do whatever is asked of her. Ms. Walsh will work with anyone with hesitation. She assists in all areas. Whenever there is a sub teacher she assists with the classroom.
