HOH Third Graders Visit Storm King Art Center
During the 2015-2016 school year, third graders from Horizons on the Hudson IB World School attended Storm King Art Center to continue to enhance their curriculum and instruction through hands on experiences which foster inquiry. The students used content area vocabulary to discuss mathematical concepts and develop poems in various formats. They applied their previous experiences to new perspectives and engaged in rigorous discussions about art as it connects to writing, math and science. Students noticed that the new Oppenheim Exhibition related directly to their classroom investigations about perimeter and area. When visiting Newman's Broken Obelisk, the students discussed scientific concepts about energy and power. Victoria Lichtendorf, Director of Education and Public Programs, told students that she was so impressed with their communication skills and application of concepts, vocabulary and knowledge that they could be "future docents"!
