Certified Nurse Aide Scholars Participate in Project Hire Event
Scholars from the Nurse Aide Program at Newburgh Free Academy North Campus participated in a day of interviews and professional development. The event was held at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center. Organizations that conducted interviews included: Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Sapphire Nursing Home, Crystal Run Healthcare, and Accesss: Supports for Living.
As a result of the day, nine students were hired for full-time jobs. Interviews continue to be conducted as positions become available.
Prior to the event, students developed their resumes and cultivated interview skills in addition to completing requirements, developing skills, and passing necessary tests to be eligible for the available positions. Toward the end of the event, students participated in a professional development session for suicide prevention training and earned a certificate for completion.
The Nurse Aide Program is one of 21 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that are offered to high school students at Newburgh Free Academy. Teachers for the Nurse Aide program include 2018 ACTE National Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Linda Romano, Dr. Stacy Shewprashad, and Ms. Lorraine Moore.
