NFA North Scholars Become Certified Peer Group Mentors
Peer Group Mentors at Newburgh Free Academy North Campus became certified mentors from The Center for Supportive Schools - Peer Group Connection. Additionally, NFA North Campus is a certified site for the Center for Supportive Schools - Peer Group Connection.
This was the inaugural year for PGC to be implemented in our district and NFA North Campus peer leaders did a stellar job mentoring, teaching and supporting the freshman through their first year of high school. Cite certification from the Center for Supportive Schools requires high fidelity in the roll out and realization of the program. The faculty advisors (Phil Castiglione and Lauren LoAlbo) attended a series of training conferences and were observed throughout the year by directors and project managers to ensure the implementation of the program was followed with precision and success. Throughout the year, our mentors led the 9th graders through weekly outreaches, check-ins and scholastic support. Additionally, the peer leaders facilitated community building activities such as painting the stairwells in North Campus as well as enacting a fall and a spring activity day for the freshman.
We are proud of the honor of being a Center for Supportive Schools - Peer Group Connection certified site and as such North Campus will serve as a model program for districts throughout New York and New Jersey. Congratulations to the peer leaders for their achievement in becoming certified PGC mentors.
