Parents Engage in Conversation with Nationally Renowned Education Speaker & School Leadership Expert
Parents and families participated in a regular Parent Café event, hosted by Family and Community Engagement. The guest for this session was Principal Kafele, a nationally renowned education speaker and school leadership expert. The group met at local community spot, Blacc Vanilla. Parents were invited to participate in the conversation led by Principal Kafele and engage with reflective dialogue with participating parents and family members. Parent Café events are part of the My Brother’s Keeper challenge initiative that the district accepted in 2018.
Participants were invited to discuss their thoughts, reflections, and experiences on parenting their young boys. Together, they learned from each other and developed a community of support among the parent participants.
Principal Kafele welcomed parents to view helpful resources that he has created. He provided articles and videos that offer a wide range of content surrounding parenting and leader schools.
District leaders and teachers also participated to help support the growing MBK parent community. Board of Education member, Mr. Philip Howard, principal, Mr. Danny Dottin, and Director of Family and Community Engagement, Mrs. Pamela Peterson were present. Additionally, MBK Teacher Mentors Sharol Whyte, Dardanella Russell-Scott, Richard Green, Jelisa Tonge, Jessie Laguerre, and Sabrina Dolfinger were present for the event to support scholars and their families.
