Heritage Middle School Unveils New Running Path Donated by NFA Alumni
Heritage Middle School unveiled a newly cleared path donated by Newburgh Free Academy alumnus Lynn Warren, class of 1984. The path will primarily be used by the NFA cross-country team for practice and meets. The path is approximately 3 miles in length.
During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Mr. Warren acknowledged the positive impact his own involvement in running had on his high school experience. He proclaimed that being part of the NFA cross-country team in high school created a family bond that redirected his path in high school. The team has always had a special place in his heart.
Matthew Haynes and Alondra Cruz-Delgado, representatives from the boys and girls cross-country teams spoke during the ceremony and gave thanks for their new practice and competition space. Matthew is currently an 11th grade scholar at NFA Main Campus and Alondra is currently a 10th grade scholar at NFA North Campus.
Coach Chris Marino acknowledged several conversations and donations that contributed to the completion of the new path. Specifically, Coach Marino thanked NECSD superintendent, Dr. Roberto Padilla, Executive Director of Operations and Maintenance, Mr. Andy Velez, Athletic Director Mr. Edgar Glascott, and girls cross-country coach, Coach Kathi Workman. Mr. Tylor Scott and Mr. Ian Scott worked on the project through Lynn Warren’s landscaping company.
The HMS 5K Committee purchased four benches to place along the trail. A special thanks to Mr. Helbock’s technology class for assembling the four benches.
