A letter from South Middle School Principal, Ms. Brooks
November 21, 2019
Dear South Middle School families,
The safety and well-being of your children is our highest priority. I am writing this letter to inform you about a recent incident that requires your attention.
This afternoon, a school employee noticed a message that indicated South Middle School was a target for violence. Officials with the City of Newburgh Police Department and the Newburgh Enlarged City School District have been notified. They are working to determine the validity of the threat and the person responsible for issuing the threat.
While we handle all threats such as these in a serious manner, we are also diligent about pursuing those who make false claims and jeopardize the safety and learning environment of our scholars. The Newburgh Enlarged City School district and local law enforcement officials will investigate and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law those responsible for doing so.
News or rumors of the threat of violence in school can be alarming and I want to make certain that you have the facts. Your child’s safety and well-being continues to be our top priority.
Please help us by reminding your child to speak to an adult if they ever see, hear, or otherwise become aware of this type of threat to their school. It is through the work of all that we are able to love and support our scholars.
Sincerely,
Ms. Chante Brooks
Principal, South Middle School
