Two NFA P-TECH Scholars Receive Outstanding Academic Achievement Recognition from SUNY Orange
NFA P-TECH scholars Kyle Villano and Liam Tunnell will receive an Orange County Community College Certificate of Merit for “Outstanding Academic Achievement” in A.A.S. Cyber Security at a recent Zoom presentation held by the college.
Kyle is currently a senior at NFA P-TECH and will be earning both his associates degree from SUNY Orange and his high school diploma from Newburgh Free Academy this year. He plans to attend Mount Saint Mary College next year to complete his bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security.
Liam earned his high school diploma from Newburgh Free Academy last year and earned his associates degree from SUNY Orange this year. Liam plans to enter the world of work in his field of study.
Members of the SUNY Orange Computer Science and Technology Department select four college students to receive this award, based on grade point average. The recognition is typically awarded at the Awards Convocation, but due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony will be held via Zoom hosted by SUNY Orange President Dr. Kristine Young and SUNY Orange Foundation Executive Director Dawn Ansbro.

P-TECH’s unique program is specially designed so that students complete high school, have the opportunity to earn a college degree, and are career ready by the time they graduate. NFA P-TECH’s curriculum will offer learning experiences based in the real world, using a model focused on science, technology, engineering, math, and the arts. Students will develop important academic and career skills as they learn through projects developed in collaboration with IBM. Students are expected to address current issues and problems; to comprehend, apply, and innovate with the knowledge they learn; and to make the connection between academic learning and real world situations. The length of enrollment is tailored to the learning needs and goals of each student. Students will have the opportunity to earn an Associate of Applied Science in either Computer Information Technology – Networking or Cyber Security.
