New York State School Reopening Timeline
Yesterday, July 8, Governor Cuomo set the first week of August as a deadline for the state to make a decision on the reopening of schools. On July 13, the state is expected to issue its finalized guidance on reopening schools in the fall.
NECSD is among the 700 school districts who are working to develop and adjust their fall reopening plans to submit for review to the state by July 31st
Based on the submitted plans and incoming health data, the state will make a decision during the week of August 1st - 7th if and when schools will reopen in the fall, the governor said during his media briefing.
The Governor noted that some regions may reopen differently than other regions, similarly to how different regions entered the various phases at different times.
As the district awaits guidance from the state, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District is hosting weekly Operation Reopen Task Force and Advisory meetings that are composed of over 200 members of our NECSD and local community.
More information about the work that NECSD is doing to prepare reopening plans will be found on a special section of our website dedicated to this work soon. In the meantime, please be sure to participate in our Thoughtexchange for parents and guardians and our survey for faculty and staff.

Parents and guardians:
Parents and guardians, to participate in this thoughtexchange, you will be asked to respond to one open-ended question, consider and assign stars to some of the ideas shared by others (20 to 30 is ideal), and learn what's important to our community.
Your thoughts and stars are confidential. You can come back as often as you'd like to participate and, in fact, we ask that you do come back to star some of the new ideas shared since you first participated. The ratings will help us understand the most important areas to focus on. The more stars you select indicates how much you agree with a thought or statement.
