Harriet Tubman is coming to Newburgh!
Starting on Monday, October 12, 2020, the Newburgh Free Library will be hosting a magnificent and iconic Harriet Tubman statue for two months. The 2,400-pound, 9-foot-tall, bronze statue of Harriet Tubman, created by Academy and Emmy award-winning sculptor Wesley Wofford, will make a stop in Newburgh during its Journey to Freedom tour around the country. Join us for the Harriet Tubman Arrival Ceremony on Oct. 12th from 5p.m. to 6:30p.m. featuring the M'Vore Entertainment dance group, "The Mouvas," and choir, "Sounds of Heritage." Outdoors, socially distanced, limited to 50. Our Harriet Tubman Journey to Freedom celebration will be held on Saturday, October 17th from 12p.m. to 3p.m. with a variety of musicians, artists, and spoken word performers at the Newburgh Free Library outdoors, socially distanced, and limited to 50.
The Newburgh Free Library will hold various programs featuring lectures, creative art, live historical re-enactments, book discussions, an urban renewal project photo exhibit and a monthly conversational series called “Bridge Talks” during the next twelve months. The library’s first program is a LIVE virtual conversation with the award-winning sculptor Wesley Wofford on Mon., Oct. 5th from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Visit the Calendar Of Events at http://www.newburghlibrary.org/ to register for this program and check out upcoming programs.
