NFA Evening School Recognizes Math Teacher, Ms. Mineo
Ms. Wood, EHS House Principal, would like to recognize Algebra 1 CR teacher, Katie Lee Mineo, for her exquisite planning skills in motivating students to learn in her evening credit recovery math class. Ms. Mineo makes her math lessons come to life as they are filled with enticing objectives to motivate students to learn.
In a google meet, scholars learned about solving multi-step equations by creating and then playing a version of the game Clue. Scholars started with a google excel sheet that had multi-step equations on it. They took turns solving the problem with Ms. Mineo as she wrote responses on the promethean board. When they got the correct answer they typed it in the yellow box. If it was truly correct the box turned blue and then the program eliminated wrong solutions from the chart.
The activity is engaging and quite fun because it allows students to self check as they go. At the end of the problem whoever is left in the Who?, Where?, and What? categories had the correct answer. Katie Lee Mineo and her math scholars knew exactly what to do within the world of their google classroom as they achieved 100% mastery of the skill at hand.
Check out pictures of the activity to get a better idea of their accomplishment.
