Important Letter from NECSD Superintendent Dr. Roberto Padilla

Dear Goldback faculty, staff, families, and scholars,

As I am sure you are aware, positive cases of COVID-19 are on the rise nationally, as well as in New York State and in Orange County. I am writing to remind you to continue to care for yourself and for others by practicing the 3Ws for mitigating the spread of COVID 19: Wear a Mask, Wash your hands, & Watch your distance. 

As we approach the holiday season, I’m sure it’s tempting to want to spend time with loved ones. It has been a very long year and we may be feeling tired of the current circumstances. This is understandable, but we need to continue to #ShoulderUp and remain focused on reducing the spread of COVID-19. We each play an important role in keeping ourselves and others healthy. 

We are diligently trying to keep you informed each time we learn of a positive case, whether an individual has been present in a school building or not. Thank you for respecting the confidentiality of others. Due to medical privacy laws, we cannot release the names of individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19. We ask that you also respect individuals that you may know have tested positive and maintain their privacy as well. I’m sure you would want the same courtesy given to you if you or a member of your family becomes the one to test positive. 

If positive cases in our area continue to rise, we may need to pause our reopening plan and temporarily transition from our current hybrid model to 100% remote learning model for one or more schools. Fortunately, we have had time to prepare for this scenario and are much better equipped for a smooth transition than we were in the spring. 

We will remain vigilant in safeguarding the health and safety of our scholars and personnel and we ask that you do the same so we all mitigate the spread of COVID-19. However, we are encouraging everyone to be in a state of preparedness, should we have to make this transition. Scholars and educators should be prepared to bring necessary materials home with them in the event that we transition to 100% remote learning. 

We know that this scenario may be difficult for our families and hope that we are able to maintain our current phase, however, we also know that this is a possibility and want to make sure you are as prepared as possible if that time comes. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this decision has on our families. I sincerely appreciate you.

Estimados profesores, personal, familias y estudiantes Goldback:

Como estoy seguro de que sabe, los casos positivos de COVID-19 están aumentando a nivel nacional, así como en el estado de Nueva York y en el condado de Orange. Le escribo para recordarle que debe continuar cuidando de usted mismo y de los demás  para mitigar la propagación del COVID 19: Use una máscara, lávese las manos y cuide su distancia.

A medida que nos acercamos a la temporada navideña, estoy seguro de que es tentador querer pasar tiempo con sus seres queridos. Ha sido un año muy largo y es posible que estemos cansados ​​de las circunstancias actuales. Esto es comprensible, pero debemos continuar con el #ShoulderUp y permanecer enfocados en reducir la propagación de COVID-19. Cada uno de nosotros juega un papel importante para mantenernos saludables y a los demás.

Intentamos diligentemente mantenerlo informado cada vez que nos enteramos de un caso positivo, ya sea que un individuo haya estado presente en un edificio escolar o no. Gracias por respetar la confidencialidad de los demás. Debido a las leyes de privacidad médica, no podemos divulgar los nombres de las personas que dieron positivo en la prueba de COVID-19. Le pedimos que también respete a las personas que puede saber que han dado positivo y que también mantenga su privacidad. Estoy seguro de que le gustaría recibir la misma cortesía si usted o un miembro de su familia resultan positivos en la prueba.

Si los casos positivos en nuestra área continúan aumentando, es posible que debamos detener nuestro plan de reapertura y hacer una transición temporal de nuestro modelo híbrido actual al modelo de aprendizaje 100% remoto para una o más escuelas. Afortunadamente, hemos tenido tiempo de prepararnos para este escenario y estamos mucho mejor equipados para una transición suave que en la primavera.

Nos mantendremos vigilantes para salvaguardar la salud y seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y personal y les pedimos que hagan lo mismo para que todos mitiguemos la propagación del COVID-19. Sin embargo, estamos alentando a todos a estar en un estado de preparación, en caso de que tengamos que hacer esta transición. Los estudiantes y educadores deben estar preparados para llevar los materiales necesarios a casa en caso de que hagamos la transición al aprendizaje 100% remoto.

Sabemos que este escenario puede ser difícil para nuestras familias y esperamos poder mantener nuestra fase actual, sin embargo, también sabemos que esta es una posibilidad y queremos asegurarnos de que esté lo más preparado posible si llega ese momento. Me disculpo de antemano por cualquier inconveniente que esta decisión tenga con nuestras familias. Sinceramente le agradezco.
