Horizons Second Graders Host Living Wax Museum
Scholars in Katie Allen’s 2nd grade class at Horizons on the Hudson hosted a Living Wax Museum the evening of June 1, 2017. The scholars were told to choose a figure from U.S. history to investigate. Students collected background information about their historical person from the Who Was, Who Is biography series. The activity was more than a lesson in research and history. It was also a lesson in writing-- scholars focused on writing multi-paragraph reports and making a timeline of important life events. With all the information students collected they created a mini tri-fold too display on museum night and a button to press so they could wake up and share information about themselves to museum patrons. The night of the wax museum students came to school dressed as their historical figure. The evening was a phenomenal success. The historical figures included; Paul Revere, Queen Elizabeth, Clara Barton, Anne Frank, Maria Tallchief, Bruce Lee, Queen Victoria, Betsy Ross, Sacajawea, Martin Luther King Jr., Ulysses S Grant, Annie Oakley, Stan Lee, and J.K. Rowling.
