NFA West Presents: The 4th Annual Poetry Slam & Art Show
NFA West is will be hosting the 4th Annual Poetry Slam & Art Show on Friday, March 12, 2021. The event is the culminating event for the school's February Black History Month activities that scholars have been engaging in throughout the month of February. The event will take place in early March due to the mid winter recess break.
For the event, students will be focusing on black history and social justice topics in their English and Art Classes which will culminate into them writing their own individual poems and creating artwork that demonstrates a social justice topic they are passionate about. The artwork will be displayed virtually through a NFA West Virtual Art Museum. Our poets will present videos of their poetry or present virtually live on the day of the show.
In addition to the annual poetry slam and art gallery, students have been reflecting on "Black History" moments during our weekly Friday morning meeting where a staff member or student will present a topic to share with the entire school body.
