NFA's A Cappella Chorus Celebrates Music in our Schools Month!

Here is the NFA A Cappella chorus, singing Set Me As a Seal by René Clausen, conducted by Ms. Jillian Caci.

The group is rehearsing in the auditorium due to the 12 foot requirement for singers and are using strategic placement of 5 microphones to help students hear themselves and others. The distance from the closest student to the farthest student is about 40 feet, enough to cause a delay in the sound between singers, so the students have developed very good habits of watching the conductor and listening to the audio monitors in order to stay together.

In the room
Tais Zosaya, Megan Torres, Carli Coughlin, Manuel Tejeda, Jetzibe Martinez, Paige Kubin, Madison Velanti, Solangie Almeyda, Ryan McMahon, and Oscar Rosa-Diaz
On screen: Christopher Carbone, Marisa Fagan, Audi Hess, Leah Isaacs, Gurleen Kaur, Ymanie Kenan, Maren Krasner, Julian Lamar,  Ashley Mayancela,  Abelis Medina, Inez O'Shea, John O'Sullivan, Ariel Ramirez, Lauren Romero, Giavanna Scarchilli, Ghaniya Shahkhan, Taryn Sileno, Sophia Turenchalk, Eric Vasquez

This group is preparing this song for the June 4 concert.

The meet computer is in the middle of the group so those kids hear the best mix. We arrived at the current microphone/computer/speaker/singer configuration through the collective feedback and contributions of the students in the room and the students at home.
Everything is harder under covid but #MusicIsHappening

More about Music in Our Schools Month:

This March, music educators and music students will be celebrating music education in their school communities demonstrating how “Music. The Sound of My Heart” resonates with them. This is the theme of the 2021 observance of Music In Our Schools Month®. The impact of music education on the lives of students during this particular school year, unlike any other, is evident in how the social-emotional benefits have carried them through the pandemic and brought joy in their communities.

The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) recognizes March as the thirty-sixth annual Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM®). Since 1985, MIOSM has been observed as a yearly month-long celebration when schools and communities celebrate music in their local schools and the educators who dedicate themselves to bringing music into the lives of students every day.

Every day, in music programs across the United States, music educators dedicate themselves to reaching all students with life-changing musical experiences. What parents, administrators, and the wider community have not always had the opportunity to observe, however, is the months of practice and rehearsals, and the process of learning that takes place in the music classroom—whether virtual or distanced in person.

ATTENTION: Are your scholars or colleagues doing something great? Please contact the district Communications Strategist, Cassie Sklarz (csklarz@necsd.net). We’d love to visit your class or event and/or post your pictures and recap to highlight the amazing accomplishments throughout our district!
