Two Seniors Named 2020-2021 Senior Scholar Humanities Honoree Award Recipients
Alexander Yakle and Sage Galati have been named 2020-2021 Senior Scholar Humanities Honoree Award recipients by Orange-Ulster BOCES. Find more information about our scholars below!
More about Sage Galati:
Sage Galati is a consummate musician, artist, and scholar athlete who currently performs in the Newburgh Free Academy Madrigals Honors Chorus and the NFA Orchestra. She is a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society. During her 4 years in high school she has performed in countless music department concerts and school shows including the All School musical at NFA. Sage has chosen to ‘do more’ since the fifth grade, auditioning and being accepted to All County in grades 5-12. She has also prepared NYSSMA solos all four years of High School in both voice and violin and was selected for Zone 9 Area All State in 2019. While the 2020-21 festivals have been cancelled, I have no doubt that Sage would have continued to be accepted into these highly competitive organizations. She frequently uses her talents to help others, contributing her bass and guitar playing to events such as the Lap for Life and NFA Graduation. She has held various elected offices in her performing ensembles where she has demonstrated great leadership. Most recently, she has been appointed Treasurer of the NFA MusicCouncil, where she will oversee that organization’s accounts and all of its expenditures and deposits.
Sage is also musically active outside of the school setting. She has performed with the prestigious Manhattan School for Strings at Carnegie Hall and with the Newburgh Symphony chorus, and creates content on Soundcloud.
As an athlete, Sage has competed on the Newburgh wrestling team and with the Newburgh Rowing Club. In addition to her musical and athletic accomplishments, Sage is an active visual artist, taking classes in video production and maintaining an active photo portfolio. She is currently using her photo, filming, and editing skills in typical Sage Galati fashion to produce a film for Dying Industry, a local film company, and is also currently assistant directing and editing one of the NFA virtual choral performances.
Sage is in high esteem by her peers, who admire and respect her abilities and work ethic, and frequently seek her musical input. She is gracious in sharing her skills and knowledge, and has found that rare balance in leadership between listening and telling. She is a true leader and Renaissance woman.
In addition to the above, Sage has managed to maintain high academic standing while contributing to and working at her family’s business. Sage has my highest recommendation without reservation. She is a musician, artist, athlete, and performer of exceptional ability and promise.
