Scholars Recognized for Athletic Accomplishments with Community Based Organizations
Seven students were recognized at the Board of Education meeting who have accomplished outstanding achievements this summer in athletic events. This was a student recognition for community based organizations.
Ka'najarae Pascual and Ja'sir Juniors were recognized for winning gold and silver medals, respectively at the USA boxing 2020 National Championship Champions in Louisiana this summer. These athletes are coached by Leonard Lee at Hook Elite Boxing in the City of Newburgh. Congratulations to these athletes and their coach!
Additionally, five athletes for winning the 4x400m relay and the Swedish Relay at the 2021 Outdoor National Championships in Oregon earlier this summer. Esteban Lopez who is currently attending university of Nevada, placed first in the 4x400m relay, Matthew Worrell placed first in the Swedish Relay, James Onuwaka who is currently attending Penn State, Jean Oriene who is currently attending John McCray College, and John Fermpong were on both the winning relay teams. These athletes are coached by Malcom Burks at Newburgh Elite in the City of Newburgh.
The scholars who have already left for college were represented by their parents for the recognition. Congratulations to these athletes and their coach!
The athletes received a certificate of recognition from Board of Education President Ms. Carole Mineo and were joined by Athletics Director Mr. Howie Harrison.
