Dear scholars, families, faculty and staff,

We are excited to begin the new school year. Our faculty and staff returned today and are looking forward to welcoming all of our scholars back. I’m writing with some critical information that will impact the first week of school. As a result of the initial guidance issued by the NYS Department of Health on this past Friday evening, August 27, 2021 and long term mitigation planning, the Board of Education has voted to approve changes to the district calendar for the start of the new year. This vote occurred on Monday, August 30, 2021. The recording of that meeting can be viewed here. The district anticipates additional guidance to be issued by the NYSDOH at some point this week. We will continue to keep you updated.

The adjustment of three days has rescheduled the first day of school for students to Thursday, September 9, 2021. Wednesday and Thursday, September 1 and 2, 2021 will now be Superintendent’s Conference Days. Friday, September 3, 2021 will be an emergency day and the district will be closed, with the exception of some essential personnel. Our September calendar at a glance can be found here. The additional time will allow the district to receive supplies to add more indoor and outdoor seating to maintain additional physical distancing during meal times. The time will also allow our grounds crew and custodial staff an opportunity to best prepare all of our facilities during those days for this adjustment, which will continue through Friday, September 3, 2021. 

With the exception of this change, the district will continue to follow the 2021-2022 Reopening Guidebook that was shared with our NECSD community on Friday, August 20, 2021.

I recognize that you may have questions about how this change may impact the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year calendar and the use of future emergency days. We will be working with our collective bargaining units in the upcoming weeks and will have more information to share soon. I also recognize the inconvenience this may have caused with regards to childcare and assure you that timely communication will be a priority for our team if/when any new guidance is received that changes our current model.

Please consider the COVID-19 vaccination if you have not already. The district is offering vaccination distribution dates for the Pfizer vaccine that is authorized for people 12 years of age and older. Sign up information can be found here. Continue to wash your hand, watch your distance, and wear a mask. We are honored to have your support and look forward to our collaboration as we work together to overcome this pandemic. This is an immense responsibility we take very seriously.

Estimados académicos, familias, profesores y personal,

Estamos emocionados de comenzar el nuevo año escolar.  Nuestra facultad y personal regresaron hoy y esperamos dar la bienvenida a todos nuestros estudiantes.  Le escribo con información fundamental que tendrá un impacto en la primera semana de clases. Como resultado de la guía inicial emitida por el Departamento de Salud del Estado de Nueva York el pasado viernes, por la noche, 27 de agosto de 2021 y la planificación de mitigación a largo plazo, la Junta de Educación ha votado para aprobar cambios en el calendario del distrito para el comienzo del nuevo año. Esta votación tuvo lugar el lunes 30 de agosto de 2021. La grabación de esa reunión se puede ver aquí. El distrito prevé que el NYSDOH emitirá una guía adicional en algún momento de esta semana. Continuaremos manteniéndote actualizado.

El ajuste de tres días ha reprogramado el primer día de clases para los estudiantes para el jueves 9 de septiembre de 2021. El miércoles y jueves 1 y 2 de septiembre de 2021 ahora serán los días de conferencias del superintendente. El viernes 3 de septiembre de 2021 será un día de emergencia y el distrito estará cerrado, con la excepción de algunos miembros del personal esencial. Nuestro calendario de septiembre de un vistazo se puede encontrar aquí. El tiempo adicional permitirá que el distrito reciba suministros para agregar más asientos en el interior y al aire libre para mantener una distancia física adicional durante las comidas. El tiempo también permitirá a nuestro personal de mantenimiento y conserjería la oportunidad de preparar mejor todas nuestras instalaciones durante esos días para este ajuste, que continuará hasta el viernes 3 de septiembre de 2021.

Con la excepción de este cambio, el distrito continuará siguiendo la Guía de reapertura 2021-2022 que se compartió con nuestra comunidad de NECSD el viernes 20 de agosto de 2021.

Reconozco que es posible que tenga preguntas sobre cómo este cambio puede afectar el resto del calendario escolar 2021-2022 y el uso de los días de emergencia futuros. Trabajaremos con nuestras unidades de negociación colectiva en las próximas semanas y pronto tendremos más información para compartir. También reconozco los inconvenientes que esto puede haber causado con respecto al cuidado de los niños y les aseguro que la comunicación oportuna será una prioridad para nuestro equipo si / cuando se reciba alguna nueva guía que cambie nuestro modelo actual.

Considere la vacuna COVID-19 si aún no lo ha hecho. El distrito está ofreciendo fechas de distribución de vacunación para la vacuna Pfizer que está autorizada para personas de 12 años o más. La información de registro se puede encontrar aquí. Continúe lavándose las manos, controle la distancia y use una máscara. Nos sentimos honrados de contar con su apoyo y esperamos nuestra colaboración mientras trabajamos juntos para superar esta pandemia. Esta es una inmensa responsabilidad que nos tomamos muy en serio.
