A Warm Welcome to the Library

The Newburgh Free Library will be hosting “A Warm Welcome to the Library” on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 124 Grand Street, Newburgh, NY. Working in partnership with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local 311, this program will make available over 190 new winter coats supplied through Operation Warm to children aged 5 and 6 years old in the Newburgh community.

This is the third time the Newburgh Free Library was selected to partner with IATSE Local 311 to reach families in need. The idea behind offering a new winter coat to children is to encourage them to visit the library year-round, in particular children who may live within walking distance, and to invite children and their families to discover the programs and services available for free at the library when they pick up their coat.

This year the library’s program will focus on children ages 5 and 6 years old. Due to social distancing requirements and to ensure a safe experience for children and caregivers, adults interested in bringing a child to the program must register using the online calendar of events for November 20, 2021 at newburghlibrary.org or by calling 845-563-3625 to reserve a time to visit. Registration is available each half hour from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

“The opportunity to provide a new coat to youth in need demonstrates a continued generosity to youth in our community,” said Lisa Kochik, Head of Youth Services. “Some of the heartwarming comments from participants in the past noted how for a large family, a coat for the youngest members actually benefits the entire family. Another participant expressed appreciation that it takes some stress away for the winter worries of sickness, not to mention the love of the color options and how much it means to the child to know that a stranger cares. We hope to see many happy faces when these kids choose their new free coat, and look forward to welcoming families to discover the library!”

Volunteers from IATSE Local 311 will be on hand at the event to assist with distributing the coats that were funded by their members. For more information about the library, visit newburghlibrary.org
