Black History Highlighted at Balmville

Balmville Elementary currently features a brilliant display of Black History in its main hallway. The contents of the display, selected and created by Ms. Toie Calhoun, center around the contributions, stories and culture of Black Americans. Ms. Calhoun set out to highlight Black Americans whose stories may be less prominent, however their imprint is deeply woven into the fabric of American History and in some cases, the World. The inspirational quotes and images in the display reflect the pride and perseverance needed to make a difference. Through this display, scholars and staff are reminded that Black History is indeed American History.
