Meadow Hill 8th Graders Celebrate Pi Day
Pi anyone? On Monday, March 14, 2022 (3/14…Get it?!), Meadow Hill GEMS 8th graders celebrated Pi Day. Pi, also known by the Greek letter “π,” is a constant value used in math that represents the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is the numerical equivalent of 3.14….15…9265359… (and so on). Additionally, the fourteenth of March is also Albert Einstein’s birthday, so this day is nothing short of a mathematician’s delight. In honor of this special day, Mr. Wenzel’s HCS class prepared delicious apple pies while Mrs. Mellili’s math classes engaged in various fun-filled math activities. Students participated in a pie eating contest, partnered up for some friendly competition in a Pi facts trivia game, and finally showcased their brain power in a challenge of who could memorize the most digits of Pi in the correct sequence. The winners of the challenge were as follows:
1st Place: Ann Quintero (Recited the first 100 digits)
2nd Place: Sofia Bellardino (Recited the first 94 digits)
3rd Place: Elisa Mejia (Recited the first 62 digits)
