Dear NECSD students, families, faculty, and staff,

The safety and well-being of your child(ren) is our highest priority. We are writing this letter to inform you about safety drills that will be conducted throughout the school year. As some drills are conducted, you should receive a robo call to the primary number listed for your child(ren) alerting you that a drill occurred that day in your child’s school. You may want to follow up with your child on days that you know their school practiced a drill.

Safety drills are in preparation of a threat targeting the school and are in accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education Act (Project SAVE). The SAVE law was enacted in 2000 in an effort to improve school safety.

This year, all drills will be announced in the fall and unannounced in the spring. The manner in which students and teachers participate in these drills helps our safety personnel and school administrators reflect and understand how we can better prepare each school for emergency situations. These drills may be upsetting for your child, regardless of how the drill is conducted. Your child may have questions or wish to express their emotions about the potential dangers in the world. According to the age and level of understanding, answer your child’s questions honestly. Try to be sensitive to their desire to communicate, while listening to and accepting their feelings. Please contact one of the Pupil Personnel teams in your building if you need assistance with conversations about their feelings and/or emotions.

Ask your children to review the response(s) they were taught during the drill to help them remember how to respond to potential emergency situations. You may want to take this time to also review safety procedures in your home and while out in public space.

Please help us remind your child to speak to an adult if they ever see or hear of any threat to their school or feel that something isn’t right. We each play an important role in keeping our schools safe.

Estimados estudiantes, familias, profesores y personal de NECSD,

La seguridad y el bienestar de su(s) hijo(s) es nuestra máxima prioridad. Le escribimos esta carta para informarle sobre los simulacros de seguridad que se llevarán a cabo durante el año escolar. A medida que se realizan algunos simulacros, debe recibir una llamada automática al número principal indicado para su(s) hijo(s) avisándole que se realizó un simulacro ese día en la escuela de su hijo. Es posible que desee hacer un seguimiento con su hijo los días en que sabe que su escuela practicó un simulacro.

Los simulacros de seguridad son en preparación de una amenaza dirigida a la escuela y están de acuerdo con la Ley de Escuelas Seguras contra la Violencia en la Educación (Proyecto SAVE) . La ley SAVE se promulgó en 2000 en un esfuerzo por mejorar la seguridad escolar.

Este año, todos los simulacros se anunciarán en el otoño y sin previo aviso en la primavera. La forma en que los estudiantes y maestros participan en estos simulacros ayuda a nuestro personal de seguridad y administradores escolares a reflexionar y comprender cómo podemos preparar mejor a cada escuela para situaciones de emergencia. Estos simulacros pueden ser molestos para su hijo, independientemente de cómo se lleven a cabo. Su hijo puede tener preguntas o desear expresar sus emociones sobre los peligros potenciales en el mundo. De acuerdo con la edad y el nivel de comprensión, responda las preguntas de su hijo con honestidad. Trate de ser sensible a su deseo de comunicarse, mientras escucha y acepta sus sentimientos. Póngase en contacto con uno de los equipos de personal estudiantilen su edificio si necesita ayuda con conversaciones sobre sus sentimientos y/o emociones.

Pídales a sus hijos que revisen las respuestas que les enseñaron durante el simulacro para ayudarlos a recordar cómo responder a posibles situaciones de emergencia. Es posible que desee tomarse este tiempo para revisar también los procedimientos de seguridad en su hogar y en espacios públicos.

Ayúdenos a recordarle a su hijo que hable con un adulto si alguna vez ve o escucha alguna amenaza a su escuela o siente que algo no está bien. Cada uno de nosotros juega un papel importante en mantener nuestras escuelas seguras.
