Heritage Middle Schooler Wins Transportation Poster Contest
The New York Association for Pupil Transportation (NYAPT) conducted its annual New York School Bus Safety Poster Contest in partnership with the New York State Education Department and in accordance with guidelines and rules set out by the American School Bus Council (ASBC) National School Bus Safety Poster Contest. New York State judging took place during the Winter Workshop earlier this month. The poster contest is not intended to be a competition as much as it is a learning opportunity for student riders about school bus safety. This year's poster theme was "Safely Rolling to My Destination".
This year marks the second consecutive year the Newburgh Enlarged City School District produced a first place winner. Heritage Middle School sixth grader, Jack Horton, took home first place honors and $25 cash for his poster entry. NECSD Transportation Director, Patricia Coyne, presented Jack with his certificate and winnings. Jack won the competition for the local NYAPT Chapter. The local chapter submits its winners to the NYAPT state competition, those winners will be chosen at the winter workshop in a couple of weeks.
Congratulations Jack!
