Newburgh Free Academy Celebrates 89 Year Tradition and Performs Winter Concert
Newburgh Free Academy, Main Campus Music Department presented their 89th Annual Winter Concert this week. Performances included A Capella Mixed Chorus, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Madrigals, and an arrangement with the Full Orchestra, A Cappella Chorus, Alumni, and Guests.
A Capella Mixed Chorus, conducted by Ms. Jillian Caci with Mrs. Karin McCartney accompanying on piano, the students sand Jabula Jesu, Refuge, and No Matter. Ranges included Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass.
Wind Ensemble, conducted by Mr. Christopher Zoutis, performed A Jubilant Entrance, A Trumpeter’s Lullaby, and Masque. Instruments included: Oboe, Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxopone, Trombone, Trumpet, French Horn, Baritone, Tuba, and Percussion.
Orchestra, conducted by Mrs. Monica Antonelli-Guido, performed Veni, Veni (O Come, O Come, Emmanuel), Boreas, The Cold North Wind, and Wizards of Winter. Instruments included: Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello, and Bass.
Madrigals, conducted by Ms. Jillian Caci, performed Lacrymosa from Requiem with Newburgh Chamber Ensemble, Walking on the Green Grass, Alleluia, and Silent Night. Ranges included Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass.
The final performance of the night celebrated the 89th year of inviting guests and alumni to join in the performance with the Full Orchestra and A Cappella Chorus. Joined by guest conductor, Mr. Dean Aulogia, NFA Class of 1989, the group filled the stage to sing Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah.
Part of the tradition of this particular concert is including alumni as part of the concert.
Julia Vavrinec, class of 2017 was called back as an alumni to play cello for the winter concert. As a former student of NFA who was active in the music council and who has just completed her first semester at The College of St. Rose, she found the time to fill in when called upon in large part because of the wonderful education and support she received while she was a student at NFA.
Most alumni who come back perform in the finale to sing to sing Hallelujah Chorus. Some alumni included: Laura Wurster class of 2017, who attends SUNY Purchase, majoring in Vocal Jazz Performance, Anthony DaSilva, class of 2014, who attends Montclair state for Musical Theatre, Jerome Mckeever 2014, who attends Northeastern and studies Finance, Mason Battle, class of 2016 who attends SUNY New Paltz for Classical Voice Performance, Anthourn Walden, class of 2014 who majors in Exercise Science, Acquila Walden, 2014 who attends Ithaca and majors in Music Education, Faith Cordes, class of 2016, is studying Accounting and Finance at Western New England University, Jessica Cordes, class of 2017, who studies Fashion Design at FIT, Sarah Cordes, class of 2014, who students Music Education at Hofstra, and Daniel Wallace, class of 2014, who studies English Education at SUNY New Paltz.
