FBI Presents to Classes at Heritage Middle School
Heritage Middle School welcomed members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to speak to students about various job opportunities within the organization and personal cyber security for our students. Ms. Lambert organized the trip to help students better understand different job opportunities that are available and how the decisions students make in middle school and high school can impact their future.
Supervisory Senior Resident Agent, Felipe Orengo let students know that primary mission of the Federal Bureau of Investigation stems from an oath each agent makes to protect everyone in the country from any form of threat. He also informed students of the close location of the Hudson Valley FBI and listed the five groups that make up the location. The five units that were discussed are: the Anti-Terrorism unit, the Counter-Intelligence unit, the White-Collar Crime Team, the Safe Streets Taskforce, and the Administrative group that includes support staff, Language Specialists, and Intelligence Analysts.
Special Agent Michael Sabric, presented to students about personal use of cell phones and things to be aware of when interacting with strangers online. Agent Sabric is part of the Cellular Analyst Survey Team and described situations to students and then quizzed them on behaviors that would help them stay safe online, but also when online interactions potentially lead to in person meetings. Agent Sabric also related physical footprints to digital footprints in his explanation of Computer Forensics to help students better understand that what they put on the internet can last forever.
Intelligence Analyst Elaine Dellapia and Operations Support Technician Patricia Ingram were also available for questions and provided handouts for students to take home and read more information about various jobs and responsibilities within the organization.
Ms. Lambert is a Technology teacher at Heritage Middle School and brought the group in to facilitate importance of career exploration in relation to the classes she teaches. Ms. Lambert brought in this group to emphasize the range of jobs that can be held within the single organization.
