Vails Gate Security Monitor Featured on Local News for Life-Saving Heroics
Vails Gate STEAM Academy Security Monitor, Mr. Tyreek Johnson, was recognized for his heroics in saving the life of a choking second grader. Mr. Johnson witnessed the young student struggling to breath and when he saw her do the universal sign for choking, he immediately sprung into action. Mr. Johnson was able to dislodge the food from her throat by performing the Heimlich Maneuver. Mr. Johnson cited the training he received from the Newburgh Enlarged City School District for his ability to remain calm and poised under the serious circumstances. Both Mr. Johnson and the student are doing well after the intense ordeal. All NECSD Security Monitors are annually trained in Basic Life Saver First Aid and CPR and AED Certified.
